Following the COVID-19 pandemic, hospitals have had to adjust their service delivery to reduce crowding. Since 2019, Princ Hospital Lamphun, under the Principal Healthcare Group and Principal Capital Public Company Limited (PRINC), has been training diabetic patients to self-administer insulin injections at home.
However, this shift in service delivery has led to a new challenge: improper disposal of used syringes by patients. Some patients have discarded syringes in general waste bins, buried them, or burned them—actions that could potentially spread infections within the community. In response, the hospital organized a training activity to educate diabetic patients on the correct method of disposing used insulin syringes. Patients are now encouraged to return their used syringes to the hospital, where proper medical waste disposal procedures are followed to ensure safety and hygiene.
